Biography

Suze Korf

Hi, my name is Suze Korf. I’m a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and all-around creative. Music is the heart of everything I do. I write, record, and produce my own songs, and I love building every part of a track from scratch. Whether I’m making layered acapella videos for YouTube or experimenting with sounds in my home studio, I’m always exploring new ways to express myself.

I consider myself an interdisciplinary artist. Alongside music, I also create videos, write poetry, and explore dance. For me, art is just a natural part of being human, a way to connect, to feel, and to be heard. I believe everyone has something to express, and I use my work to tap into that universal need.

I don’t create to chase perfection or recognition, but because I’m in love with the process. I’m curious, open-minded, and always learning. Through my music and creative projects, I hope to share pieces of myself and spark something in others, too.

“Art is a reflection of what it means to be human.”

Early Life and Childhood

I was born in 2004 in a small town called Wageningen. For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of me. Even as a toddler, I loved to sing and dance. At just four years old, I performed a solo singing act at my school’s talent show, which remains a vivid memory. From that early age, I was already obsessed with music.

My dad and I even created a small website where I could list all my favorite songs to share with friends. That little online space became my first music archive, and I took great joy in curating it.

When I turned ten, I began taking recorder lessons. This was my introduction to reading sheet music and understanding musical structure. Two years later, I started classical guitar lessons with Ger Oosterhaven, which gave me a solid foundation in technique and discipline. By the time I was fifteen, I had discovered a deep love for jazz. Its freedom, expression, and unpredictability captivated me. This new direction led me to study jazz guitar with Jack Willemse, who helped open up an entirely new world of sound and creativity.

Exploration of Sound

When I turned fifteen, I received a digital audio workstation called Studio One for my birthday. Paired with my synthesizer keyboard, it felt like a whole new world opened up in front of me. Suddenly, anything I could imagine, I could bring to life through sound.

I became fascinated by every part of the creative process, from music composition and sound design to production and mixing. I would spend hours exploring, experimenting, and learning. Sometimes I recreated my favorite tracks just to understand how they were made. Other times I wrote original pieces that reflected what I was feeling or imagining in the moment.

Not all of my creations were things I felt comfortable sharing — in fact, many of them I didn’t even like. But each attempt taught me something. I was studying the underlying principles that make music work, both technically and emotionally. Through this process, I was slowly building fluency in the language of music and becoming more confident in navigating my DAW as a creative tool.

Looking back, I didn’t realize that these quiet years of trial and error would lay the foundation for the songs I would eventually publish and perform.

Dance and Movement

My journey with dance began early. Between the ages of four and six, I took street dance classes and quickly fell in love with movement. Unfortunately, I had to stop due to time constraints, but the desire to return to dance never left me. At seventeen, I finally found my way back by enrolling in urban dance classes, and it felt like reconnecting with a part of myself.

When I moved to Eindhoven, I joined the student dance association E.S.D.V. Footloose. It quickly became a creative home and a place full of inspiring people. After one year of being a member and growing more passionate about dance, I chose to get more involved. I joined the 34th board of Footloose as Commissioner of Dance Affairs. In that role, I had the opportunity to organize workshops, performances, dance exams, and other events that brought people together through movement. I also helped create a new plan called the Dance Group Policy, which supported the development of structured training for the association’s teams.

At the same time, I was focused on training myself. I danced in two demoteams within Footloose, joining competitions and working hard to grow both technically and artistically. After my board year, I began training at CDK University and I continue to take classes there to improve.

For me, dance is more than just physical movement. It is rhythm made visible, a way to feel music through the body. Dance has also taught me a lot about the movement within music itself — how phrases rise and fall, how energy flows through a song, and how emotion travels through time and space. It has become a natural extension of my musical life and one of the most fulfilling ways I express myself.

Music Community

After moving to Eindhoven at the age of eighteen, I began exploring the broad world of music collaboration. This was the time I started actually sharing my music with others. At first, my motivation was to overcome my perfectionism, but I soon realized that publishing my music was also a way to connect with people and create together.

I loved inviting others to record and jam, discovering the joy of making music as a shared experience. About a year and a half later, I became a member of the student jazz association ESMG Studentproof. This was my first real encounter with semi-professional musicians. Having spent so much time making music on my own, I had to learn to speak this new language alongside others. It was a challenge at first, but I quickly fell in love with the sense of community and the power of sharing my passion.

Within Studentproof, I also became involved in the activity committee. This meant organizing events and activities for fellow members, being involved with the EHOOG recording sessions as a band manager and helping plan a jazz festival for the city of Eindhoven. Although the festival was unfortunately cancelled, working on such a large and creative project taught me a lot about planning and collaboration.

Alongside all of this, I led a barbershop quartet within the association, performing with three other passionate singers. Teaching my first acapella workshop there opened the door to many more opportunities and showed me how much I enjoy inspiring others through music.

These experiences gave me a real sense of what the music world can be like. They played an important role in my decision to leave my engineering degree and follow my heart by auditioning for a conservatory.

Poetry and Spoken Words

I began writing poetry quite recently, around the age of twenty. For me, poetry first started as song lyrics. I loved using words to express specific ideas within the songs I was creating. Over time, I also began journaling and noticed the power of words on their own, how they can convey feelings or thoughts even without music.

I enjoy exploring philosophical topics through poetry, but I am open to writing about anything. It could be an emotion, an idea, a critique, anything that art can express. Attending open mic nights and listening to spoken word performances deeply moved me. I realized that words have the power to spark new realizations and understandings, even when they are not explicitly stated.

Now, I often incorporate poetry into my music, and I find writing poetry to be a peaceful and meaningful practice for myself. I also love writing poems for friends and family, sharing this form of expression as a way to connect and inspire.

My Journey Forward

As I look ahead, I want to continue developing myself as an artist in every sense, as a music writer, performer, dancer, and poet. Each of these forms speak to a different part of me, and I hope to keep exploring how they can come together in meaningful ways.

I will soon begin studying jazz composition at the Conservatory of Tilburg. There, I hope to refine my skills in writing music, learn from other passionate artists, and build a strong network that can support a lasting and fulfilling career in music.

What that career will look like exactly, I do not yet know. I want to stay open to every opportunity that comes my way, trusting that the path will take shape as I walk it. What I do know is that I am committed to growing, creating, and sharing, and I believe that if I stay true to that, I will end up in the right place.
